SYRACUSE, N.Y.—A jury has convicted a New York prison inmate of falsely filing tax returns seeking $890 million in refunds.

Wifredo A. Ferrer, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida; Thomas E. Perez, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division; John V. Gillies, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Miami Field Office; and Teresa M. Gulotta-Powers, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General announced today that U.S. Bureau of Prisons (BOP) employee Jack Chris Jackson, 45, was indicted today on charges of sexual abuse of an inmate and false statements.

PHOENIX—Augustine Bernal Thomas, 39, of Phoenix, was sentenced on Monday by U.S. District Judge Susan R. Bolton to 30 years in prison. Thomas was found guilty by a federal jury on February 16, 2011 of conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice by retaliating against a witness and obstruction of justice by retaliating against a witness.

RALEIGH -- State correction officials have charged an inmate with trying to sneak a cell phone into Central Prison by hiding it in his rectum, court records show.

DUBLIN, GA: Three individuals were sentenced to federal prison by United States District Judge Dudley H. Bowen, Jr., for their roles in the smuggling of marijuana, cell phones, and other contraband into the McRae Correctional Institution in McRae, Georgia.

ATLANTA, GA—A federal jury today returned guilty verdicts against former Fulton County Sheriff's Deputy ROBERT W. HILL, Jr., 47, of Atlanta, Georgia, on one count of violating the civil rights of an inmate by using excessive force, one count of solicitation to commit a crime of violence (excessive force), two counts of obstruction of justice, and one count of lying to an FBI agent. The trial lasted three days. The jury deliberated approximately five hours before reaching the verdicts.

ASHLAND, KY—Keith D. Hollingsworth, a deputy jailer and maintance man at the Carter County Detention Center in Grayson, Ky., was indicted today on one count of sexual abuse of ward and one count of deprivation of rights under color of law.

The indictment alleges that in December of 2005, Hollingsworth, 43, of Olive Hill, Ky. engaged in sexual acts with an inmate who was in official detention and under his supervision and disciplinary authority.

Also, in June of 2007, Hollingsworth allegedly subjected a different inmate to sexual acts. According to the indictment, the acts deprived the inmate of a constitutional right not to be deprived of liberty which includes bodily integrity.

INDIANAPOLIS—Odilon Molinero-Jimenez, 34, Federal Correctional Complex, Terre Haute, Indiana, was charged today with possession of a metal object which was a weapon or was designed or intended to be used as a weapon, announced Timothy M. Morrison, U.S. Attorney, Southern District of Indiana, following an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Bureau of Prisons.

KANSAS CITY, KS—Juan Pedro Valdez, 22, an inmate at the United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth, Kan., is charged with one count of possession of a homemade knife (a shank), a prohibited object. If convicted, Valdez faces a maximum of five years. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Smith is prosecuting.

Maximum-security prisoner takes advantage, but then turns himself back in

PORTLAND, Maine - A maximum-security inmate who was mistakenly released Wednesday night has turned himself in to the police chief of Portland, the Press Herald reported Friday.

A former prison officer who had a baby with an inmate has been jailed for 30 months after pleading guilty to misconduct in a public office.

Kelly-Anne McDade, 31, who worked at HM Aylesbury Young Offenders' Institution, in Buckinghamshire, gave birth to a baby boy in February.
