The bill is a reaction to criminal cases in which bodies of overdose victims were moved to hinder investigation.
Beside being disgusting.. disrespectful.. undoubtedly they are calling for this because people have been using the deceased.. if they are finding them "moved to hinder investigation"

There has to be a law against this?? I guess some people are just so ignorant that it's necessary. But, I'll bet it won't stop some of the sickos!!

Well, I think this is sick and should not even be up for debate, this law should already have been in place even before now..it should be something that is mandatory for all the states.

Well, maybe I misread it but it says a Proposed State law, like it is up for a debate of some sort and my point is, this should not even have to be questioned, just stamped and sent on its way.

just because it is already law doesn't mean that a politician can't propose to make another law, I mean he's got to do something to make him look good to the public, and proposing useless redundant laws makes him look better than doing nothing.
The thing is that it happens so rarely that the police/DA may just not know that it is already against the law. If it happens so rarely, then we need to ask, do we really need yet another law that won't be enforced.

You are right on the fact that the politician is doing so to make himself look good, but this crime is so sick and disgusting then why not make sure that for the safe side of things and when and if a crime like this does come up then it can be in forced. I would rather there be several of the laws then none at all and take the chance of nothing being done. IMO..Also if the police themselves don't know that this is a law then they need to look at another profession as they are told what the laws are in their state..

Actually I am not sure if you read the last bit of the story. There is nothing in this case that even states that there were any recent cases of having sex with a corpse. The trigger for this was that corpses were being moved to hinder an investigation. The very last sentence of the story stated that the 'sex with corpses' part was no in response to any particular incident. So the reality is, it never happened.
As for the particulars, I believe it is currently a misdemeanour and not a felony which is what the new law would do, but the primary part of the law is to prevent a body from being moved. The politician just added the 'necrophilia' part.
Well actually nine states are indifferent on it..but here is a list of the states that it is illegal in..but it is officially called defiling the dead..and yes I did read the story and commented on what I thought was important and the important thing is the defiling the dead more so then movement of a body, as both of them should not be done..one would deem worse then another.
#Alabama - Class C felony under 13A-11-13
# Alaska - Class A misdemeanor under 11-61-130
# Arkansas - Class D felony under 5-60-101
# California - Illegal, up to 8 years in prison
# Colorado - Class 2 misdemeanor under 18-13-101
# Delaware - Class A misdemeanor under 11-5-1332
# Florida-- Second degree felony under chapter 872.06
# Georgia - Felony, up to 10 years in prison under 16-6-7
# Iowa - Class D Felony [1]
# Hawaii - Misdemeanor under 7
# Michigan - Class A felony; life in prison
# Oregon - Felony for "Abuse of Corpse" ORS 166.085
# Texas - Class A Misdemeanor [2]
# Pennsylvania - Second degree misdemeanor under Title 18 ?5510
# Washington - Class C Felony for "Sexually violating human remains" RCW 9A.44.105
# Minnesota and Nevada also have laws prohibiting necrophilia

but in the story, it indicates that no defiling of the dead actually occurred.

No, it didn't actually occur but since it was the heading of the article, myself and others posted comments on it and also since it was stated as a line (by the politician) in the seed, I went with that. :)

which is my problem with most of the news media today, they tend to go for the bombastic headlines instead of the truth.

It's surprising what Americans allow their public servants to waste their time on. With all going on in this country, this is the best this idiot could come up with? Yeah, I suppose actual issues require work. America- either do something about this, or stop griping about how poorly you're represented.
I'd be willing to bet this in already illegal in most states.......but, I doubt that will stop anyone who thinks it's ok to have sex with a corpse in the first place.

who is going to tell? and if any law maker can get mine up after im dead, they can have at it.
The bill would exempt emergency responders, physicians, medical students, funeral directors and employees of coroners' or medical examiners' offices.
Oh, so its okay if they move or have sex with the corpse...

...there might be a loophole for republican legislatures.. this person bringing it forward may have been upset that it kept on being moved, to which he couldn't find it all the time on his nightly visits...

I think this is already law here in KY... Pretty gross, when you think about it.
