As Roman Catholic leaders and government officials clash over the proper role of religion and reproductive health, shifts in health care economics are magnifying the tension. Financially stronger Catholic-sponsored medical centers are increasingly joining with smaller secular hospitals, in some cases limiting access to treatments like contraception, abortion and sterilization.

The restrictions at any given hospital may not be clear. “Women simply don’t know what they’re getting,” said Jill C. Morrison, senior counsel in health and reproductive rights at the National Women’s Law Center.

Scarier & scarier thoughts. When I go to a hospital I expect for the doctors to do all they can to save me, not rely on their religion.

A good reason why people should 'actually' check out the hospital before associating oneself with certain doctors.

Yep. But what happens if you are in an accident & cannot choose which hospital you get sent to? I am going on a trip in a couple of months with my daughter. She has some serious health issues & we will be going to a "red state", I hope if anything happens to her while we are there the doctors are competent & real doctors not just preachers with a MD after their name.

nica.. an auto accident (knock on wood) .. isn't abortions, sterilization.. etc.

So you do not have to worry .. I've been in religious hospitals before.. many times.. I've survived.. their good hospitals.. as long as you're not dealing with the things mentioned.

Unless of course the only way to save the life is to remove the reproductive organs after the accident... Just saying... I like my secular, research hospital here at home. I know the doctors & what this hospital stands for & that is advancement in all medical areas.

I am sure if that occurs.. they'll do the right thing.. if it is a matter of a person's life they will..

I don't know about that Par, they would rather let a woman die than deliver a non-viable fetus (AZ & excommunicated nun). I do not put anything past these types anymore. I have gotten to the point of always being on guard.
