I recall when Vt passed their Civil Union legislation and when Massachusetts became the first state to give gays full marriage equality. I recall how horrified the right was.... It's taken us only 8 years and now more and more states are realizing that is unfair to discriminate in this most basic right - the right to legally create a family with the person you love.
Yet... The Christian view is that being Gay or Lesbian is a "Sexual" connotation.. not what they see as a "normal" or nonstructural marriage. That Gay & Lesbian.. is not of any structure in the way they see it.. two people drawn together for the purpose of sexual like-mindedness, should not constitute a marriage, and that men & women together is the basic quantification of a marriage, so that they can "go forth and multiply"...which men and women together in a marriage can bring forth offspring that will continue the human race.
I do not care if people are gay or lesbian or polka-dotted.. if people abide by the laws, and no one is pointing a gun or threaten to kill my family..
Excuse me Par.... I'm a Christian. I happen to belong to many of the open and accepting denominations. My goodness, we even ordain gays and lesbians and have even elevated a few to Bishop. Your prejudice is showing. There are many denominations that believe that a variety of sexual identities are normal and that God has made us all different that we may learn from each other and help one another.
I am certainly not Prejudice towards Gays & Lesbians.. some of my friends are Gay / Lesbian.. I have a couple of cousins who are Gay... I am all for it.. so you might be 'assuming' also.. eh?
So.. what does that prove.. You're not an Extremist.
Actually, Par... I thought your prejudice was towards people who practice a religion. You lump them all into one big group without understanding that there are literaly, at least on the part of Christianity, literally hundreds of ways of practicing it.
Gosh Oh Gee Whiz.. I did not know that.. my goodness ..finally at the age of 65 I am glad I found that out.. Oh! Thank You..
Religion is the root of all evil .. next money..and when politics gets into the mix.. watch out!!
Par.. Actually, the correct quote is "The love of money is the root of all evil." You should look it up. (First Timothy, Chapter 6, Verse 10). I'm tempted to be snarky and say something biting, but that would be counter productive. There are so many fundementalist Christian and so many on the extreme anti-religious/atheist bent who literally spend all their time playing "gotcha" instead of trying to find common ground. Argueing will not change minds. To change minds, one must instead change hearts and that only happens through life experiences. I gather your's had made you angry towards religion. I am not, however, willing to throw the baby-out-with-the-bath-water. There are a great many denominations who spend a considerable amount of time fighting for social and economic justice. Consider that they are not your enemies, but could be an ally in your fight for justice.
