(Reuters) - A Rhode Island school board voted on Thursday to comply with a federal court order to remove a prayer banner that has been displayed in a public high school for nearly a half century, saying the cash-strapped district cannot face a costly appeal.

The emotional battle over the prayer banner and separation of church and state is one of a host of so-called "culture war" issues gaining attention during an election year.

I think it's kind of sad that something that has been a beautiful fixture for that length of time has to be removed because 1 person couldn't see past being offended.

...and of something that should of never been in the public school.

I don't care. One person gets pissy and says I'm offended and something that hundreds of people have appreciated for years has to be removed. As I stated in another thread just a minute ago I am starting to see atheists just like they see fundamentalists, as whiny little pushy people who only want things to be their way and no others. I am really learning to have no respect for either group.

There is a place for stuff like that.. in a church or religious classes, and in ones home.. Public schools are financed by public money.. and when your dealing with public money it comes from many different religious groups ..and even some that are no so religious.. and in this country we must share the responsibility in making sure that all people are represented.... I do not know about you.. but I rarely get what I want in this society.. I'm still waiting for the day that we put child predators to death and make it mandatory.. but I am sure because of all the mamby-pamby people out there ..I'll never see that happen...

Apparently though the atheists are getting what they want. There was nothing wrong with a beautiful piece of artistry staying up simply because 1 person refused to not be offended.
