Architect Patrick Partouche has designed Maison Container Lille, a 2100 square foot house built entirely from eight shipping containers. That would be interesting on its own; He has left them in a really rough and ready form with the original doors left on, acting as brise soleil or can be closed for security. It is also another good example of how architects can subvert building regulations; I suspect that sloping roofs are a requirement.

This has been going on all over world. Shipping containers are 8x8x40 or 8x9x45 and are used in the U.S. for mobile office space. If it is a reefer (refrigerated) container they say warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Aren't these homes wonderful. I googled shipping container houses and all sorts of stuff popped up. If I was planning to build a house, shipping container and adobe would be the way I would go.

Wow, that isn't all that bad, but one thing that might actually be of good use for the doors is in a hurricane or tornado zone. That would be really good protection.

I think I might like one of the abandoned missile silos better.

That's why you hire someone to paint murals. Just think of the skylight you could have!

Windows are cut into the container, many add sliding glass doors to where the original container doors were.

Wow!! I was trying to imagine what this would look like when I saw the seed, before looking at the pictures. This is way cool, what an innovative idea -- he should redo all of the crappy looking docks in the city
