Yesterday, we joined a conference call with individuals from across the country to discuss issues impacting foreign students studying in our colleges and universities. We were joined by our colleagues Julie Rodriguez from the Office of Public Engagement and Luis Miranda from the Office of Communications.

The conference call was the next step in our response to a petition submitted through We the People on Whitehouse.gov. We the People is a new way to petition the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country. We created We the People last year to help make your voices heard in our government. We know that some of the best ideas come from individuals directly impacted by federal policies.

Looks like "We the People" isn't, and doesn't represent ALL of WE the People. Instead it is an advocate group tapping into the resources of the Obama Administration.

the important issue in immigration is to make it tougher for illegal immigrants to be in the U.S.

For the most part, the problem Americans have with funding education for non-citizen or immigrants is that it takes away from the funding to educate citizens in our own country. If there was an avenue for some type of sponsorship through corporations, charities, or private individuals; it would be more feasible. Most people wouldn't have a problem with a student being admitted legally to attend school if the tuition was paid by something other than public money. It just doesn't "sit well" with many Americans to have their tax dollars spent to educate non-citizens. Particularly since we recently found out one of our brightest and smartest was homeless. Public funds should be used to benefit our citizens since they are the ones paying into it. If our government would set an example by putting the citizens first, the USA would attract the best and brightest. That would be motivation to become a citizen.

Actually, 'For the most part", it is that the American worker and homeowner pays taxes, has W-2's that they receive every year, has property taxes quarterly, pays their way.. and they would like from time to time be able to see their hard work culminate into something. The American worker who uses their real name, their real social security number, their reported real income.. Does not like free loaders.. taking from the system that they have known all of their life.. People who do not contribute into the system.. only take.. it doesn't matter if it is an illegal alien, or someone who was born here.. and their family heritage could be tracked back to the days of the Pilgrims.. It is the idea, that Joe Schmoe from Idaho works his 40 hours a week, pays for medical, car insurance, life insurance, mortgage, etc.. and his next door neighbor is illegal reaping the benefits and doing nothing.

IF an alien comes here and applies for say duel citizenship.. paid their taxes...and put into the system like the rest of us.. I have no qualms with them.. it is the ones that get something for nothing.. just for coming here illegally .. and in my eyes.. Illegal .. means against the law.

AmericanMOM Sorry but your idea makes too much sense for the current administration that is pushing for total government dependency and control. US citizens first LOL what a hoot. If "we the people" really wanted to make a statement to our free spending out of control government we would refuse to submit a tax return on April 15 with exception of those that are deserving of a tax refund.
