A new study has found that being able to purchase a rooftop solar panel system is often a privilege of the affluent, but that leasing rooftop solar panel systems is an increasingly popular option for those who simply don’t have the money to pay up front.

The real benefit for those leasing a system is seen over the next few decades of their contract, where third-party companies are touting household savings of up to $10,000 to $15,000 over two decades.
How?
Because as you pay a constant $40 or $50 per month lease on the solar panels, the cost of electricity is going up, saving you money.

This is a great idea that is growing rapidly. The other good aspect of this is that it provides solar installers with a steady income flow. They can base their business on this and use the purchased installations as their main profit generators. Basically, smooth out the ebb and flow of traditional purchases over time and seasons.

I like the $40 or $50 bucks a month.. but it would have to save me at least twice that at a minimum on my electric bill each month...

This sounds like a good idea, kind of like leasing your satellite equipment but, with better benefits.

Exactly.. but with a satellite dish if one were to stop using it.. it can be easily removed.. with solar.. not so easy if one gets angry with the company (falling out/dispute).. What kind of contractual agreement..and all that.. Would it be better to have the solar not on the roof, but on a cleared area of ones land and put it there? Would someone trust the company not to disrupt the shingles on the roof if one does have a dispute and they come and take the system away? I had a problem with the last roofing contractor I had.. made the mistake of falling for Home Depot doing that.. took them over a year to straighten out the mess.. something that important like a secured roof.. one better check into the company and process.
