On the face of it they are nothing alike

One is a social misfit who who is despised by his colleagues and mocked by the nation.

The other is a former House speaker who is running for president.

But when you look at pictures of a young Newt Gingrich and Dwight Schrute from the U.S. version of The Office, the differences just fade away.

His alter ego from The Office wears similar attire, right down to the nondescript shirt and tie and uneasy leer.

The comparison was made by The Daily Show - which also likened Gingrich to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the 1984 comedy Ghostbusters.

Not bad, but it should have read as follows:

One is a social misfit who who is despised by his colleagues and mocked by the nation.

The other is Dwight Schrute.

Haha! See what I did there? I contradicted your expectations! You thought the first sentence was describing Dwight... but no!

I'll be here all night folks. Don't forget to tip your waitresses.
