The high-level goal of RMI’s solar program is to accelerate the deployment of photovoltaic solar systems in the U.S. We’re going about this in three primary ways, all aimed at collaborating with entities throughout the solar ecosystem:

1)Help industry reduce hard and soft balance of system costs
2)Streamline investor access to PV systems
3)Assist utilities with the integration of distributed PV

Title: Transforming the U.S. Solar Market

Date: Thursday January 19, 2012
Time: 11:00AM MST

You'll learn:
--How we can reduce the installation cost of solar energy systems.
--How we can show investors and financial institutions that solar is a
safe asset.
--How to work with utilities and independent solar installers to drive
widespread adoption of solar…without federal incentives.

I set the reminder for this. I am interested to see what they have going on. I think one of the big incentives on affording these systems is a loan program where the monthly payment is less than or equal to the initial savings on the utility bill. NY state has a low interest loan program through NYSERDA that is handled by the Utility company. Your loan payment is on your utility bill and the utility collects the payment for NYSERDA.

At this point, I don't have a problem with federal and/or state incentives. I see this as similar to the rural electrification program of the 30s and 40s and to an investment in national security and as an economic investment to keep capital in the country instead of sending it overseas to oil producing countries. There is a significant national interest in becoming energy independent and sustainable that factors into the cost of the energy itself.
