Summary:
DOE is supporting the development of tools and approaches that will reduce balance of system non-hardware costs for solar energy systems. These soft costs--expenses associated with permitting, financing, interconnection, and inspection--can account for approximately half of the total expense of photovoltaic installations.
This is a good move. The price per watt of the panels has fallen tremendously from about $6/W to near $1/W. But, the soft costs have remained virtually unchanged. A 10 kW system for $20,000 would be a good price. This would generate around 1500 kWh a month average over the US. That is all to half of an individuals residential usage. And that is about the price of
ran out of time. That is about 1/3 of today's price before incentives. The size is about 25 feet by 44 feet.
Every move is progress. It is slower than I would like but it is in the right direction. I think it will really speed up when the speculators create $6/gal gas over the Iran Straits of Hormuz bluff.
Well.. it's a good thing my wife only travels 10 minutes to work..and everything is local for us within 3-4 minutes to the stores..If it hits $6 I might buy myself a horse.. lol
However, the $6 a gallon gas.. will also incorporate itself in the cost of goods.. I guess its Ramen Noodles for dinner..
