The first floating offshore wind turbine is undergoing tests more than 200 miles off the coast of Portugal

In the race for bigger offshore wind turbines, what's under the water can be just as much trouble as what's above.

Good seed.

When I see so many big names from the more conventional energy industries getting involved, I kinda think this is gonna happen!

Certainly enlightening.. and on a positive note..

You can bet your sweet bippy it's happening.. more and more companies are interfacing their businesses, and many electrical suppliers will be involved as well.. They would be crazy not to.. Only if the homeowners had the bread ($) to revamp their systems then the kick to this would be vast.

If building contractors were made to focus more on renewable and alternative sources, then the home would have these values already built in when they are constructed, and that would be a good selling point of the home.

And this is really the only true way to energy independence. When individuals can meet their energy needs they will be independent of the speculators and the manipulations of the big energy companies. This will also help stabilize the economy in general. How many economic downturns have been caused by increases in energy prices based on middle east "unrest" or power plant shutdowns, refinery capacity, etc.

This approach doe not address this vulnerability, but it does move us toward a sustainable energy sector. It shows the viability of renewables and that will encourage individuals to invest in it themselves. Ultimately, these farms should become supplementary supplies to distributed generation.
