Republican lawmakers in Congress introduced legislation on Wednesday that would require the Obama administration to issue a construction permit for the controversial Keystone XL pipeline within 60 days unless the president decided the project was not in the national interest.

“I will vigorously oppose any efforts by Republicans in Congress to legislate a rubber-stamp approval for the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline,” Senator Bernie Sanders, Independent of Vermont, said in a statement. “At a time when the State Department inspector general is conducting a special inquiry into possible conflicts of interest related to the State Department’s handling of this project, it is completely inappropriate to try to short-circuit the thorough environmental review process federal law requires.”

Until they take the sand out this pipeline should never be let to happen. As most rational people know sand is an abrasive and no matter how much oil is mixed with it, the sand will eat through the steel pipe in a short time. We need to keep up the pressure, they can refine this oil in Canada then send it south to the US. But there is another hidden agenda of the oil companies. Haveyou ever asked why the oil companies only want to refine it all the way down in LA and TX when on the way the pipeline runs right by two refineries in Kansas, the only reason can be that after they unload the oil we get from the middle east the tankers are empty. It doesn't take much of a stretch to see what they are up to, put on a ship and send it somewhere else so the oil companies can make the world price instead of the domestic price. they should be made to refine it up there and then brought down to the states.
