While Republicans seem determined to take us back to the Gilded Age, it helps to remember how we escaped that era and became a great country.

The New Deal physically reshaped the country. To this day, Americans still rely on its works for transportation, electricity, flood control, housing, and community amenities. The output of one agency alone, the Works Progress Administration, represents a magnificent bequest to later generations. The WPA produced, among many other projects, 1,000 miles of new and rebuilt airport runways, 651,000 miles of highway, 124,000 bridges, 8,000 parks, and 18,000 playgrounds and athletic fields; some 84,000 miles of drainage pipes, 69,000 highway light standards, and 125,000 public buildings built, rebuilt, or expanded. Among the latter were 41,300 schools.

The entitled, elite and those feeling "superior" are continually yapping about those "beneath" them. There is no one beneath them however and when they figure this out our country will come back into balance. Anyone incapable of honoring another is a destroyer of life and they need to catch a clue.

Absolutely js.. absolutely !!

IF not but for the fact that great men & women before us came to terms back then and regulated and delegated our way out of a great depression.. our representatives should be taking lessons from them, not undermining what and why they did it.

It seems that the "adults" and I state this loosely are of very low self-esteem, insecure and have absolutely no compassion for the country only a need to satisfy their greed. I know this isn't the first time this has happened and snowballed out of control, nor will it be the last. When I read some of the abdominal remarks the envious, resentful types write about the protests I am amazed at how ill-educated many are in America. It is disgusting. Many of our leaders diligently work for the whole of the country yet are kicked to the curb for wanting something for everyone. Those that wish to disenfranchise are fighting tooth and nail to stop this.

js - The reasons for the problem today are as clear as the sound of a bell... Today's actions are caused by those in congress that want Democrats in general ..and it wouldn't matter whether Obama was in or another Democrat as Prez... they want failure.. and they are doing so off the backs of the American worker.

This bunch is the most single-minded group of people that have very little idea about what is good for the country. They are fueled by greed, resentment and big money lining their pockets. They are not the GOP of old they are just old hat and need to move on.
