Current Situation

Cases of polio have been reported in China, the country’s first cases in more than 10 years. All cases were reported in Hotan prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region. Genetic sequencing has shown that the poliovirus isolated from these cases most closely resembles wild poliovirus type 1 found in Pakistan during the second half of 2010.

As a result of this outbreak, CDC recommends that travelers to all parts of China be up-to-date on the polio vaccine.

Polio .. is still around .. just much much much less here in the states... AS long as people - Parents do not condemn their kids to the fate ..by not getting their Shots .. which many parents have railed against doing over the years.. These would be the ones that could get it.. as long as a 'Caring Parent' promotes a healthy life for the child and does get them their shots and exams like they should.. then Polio and other diseases would not enter their door.

For those who do not believe that we are our brothers keepers. Plague, sickness and contagion do not discriminate the health of the community promotes and maintains the health of the individual. National health care is in everyone's best interest. Only those who are so blind can not see this and those who are so deaf can not hear the urgent need. Why has this issue become so political and opposed by the religious right. Don't they believe Christs words on this issue that it is their duty to care for the in firmed? Health care no but wars yes?

National health care is in everyone's best interest.

Absolutely !!!! There isn't any variance in that statement.. When protecting oneself.. you are protecting others at the same time.. and each has the power to do that.. Getting the medical treatment necessary against all of these problems .. especially when they are all readily available.. should be a crime if one does not..
