Most of us get heartburn from time to time. It may come as a burning sensation in the chest, or a bitter taste in the back of the throat. Heartburn is one word people use to describe reflux. It happens when stomach contents come back upwards. Reflux is sometimes painless: You may have trouble swallowing or get a dry cough, perhaps some wheezing.

GERD should be taken seriously. Stomach (gastric) contents contain acid needed to digest food. In reflux, these contents wash upward into the esophagus, a slender tube connecting the mouth and the stomach. Because the lining of the esophagus isn’t meant to touch gastric acid, the acid can irritate the lining of the esophagus and lead to bleeding and scarring. In adults, GERD can raise the risk of cancer of the esophagus. And if you have asthma, GERD can make it worse.

The acid can burn the throat, and cause great harm if it isn't checked into by a doctor. Very serious, and people should take it that way.

One other thing about heartburn-- in women, it can be a symptom of a heart attack, too. When I had a heart attack, I just thought it was a huge bout of acid reflux/hiatal hernia problem. When it dragged on for a couple of hours and wasn't better, I thought that maybe I should go and see about it... It was a heart attack! They feel very similarly!

Each person depending on their age groups should seek out information about different things that could effect them.. It is up to each individual to become educated in this regard.

Like certain things we eat the plus and minuses.. The stuff that put on for makeup or skin creams.. etc..etc.. There is lead in certain lipsticks and also chemicals that people put on their skin used over a certain amount of time can have a detrimental effect ..

There are environmental effects too... and then we have people wanting to lower the authority of the EPA.. which would hurt many people...

The list goes on and on and on.. It just comes down to people promoting healthier lifestyles.. and those who have been through situations like yourself.. Can be the educators of today.. so the people of tomorrow can be better to themselves and the environment.
