Senators John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) joined CNN "State of the Union" host Candy Crowley in a pre-taped interview from Cairo to discuss the uprising in Libya.

"This is a real moment of choice" for the international community, said Lieberman of the world's reaction to Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi's violent response to anti-government protesters. Lieberman called for a no-fly zone over Libya and military assistance for protesters.

Hell the Republicans in Congress.. / war machine (including lie berman) would like another playmate and Mccain and Libermann would go along with the Prez if we sacrificed some more people so the defense contractors can build more weapons...so their buddies can slide a few bucks their way for campaign contributions come 2012... So far we have Kuwait (repbulican in office) .. Iraq & Afghanistan - Republicans in office.. and now they own the house.. they want another war..

The money we spend on two wars plus other related expenditures isn't enough for these two arse wipes.. Some find that war helps the economy.. Yeah.. those who do not come back their positions here have to be filled... to be blunt about it..

How fortunate for us all that all McCain and Leiberman will ever be able to do is talk. Neither is a leader. Leiberman isn't even a man of principle, just another political hack willing to do whatever it takes to stay in office. McCain is probably sincere, but has moved himself ever further to the right trying to protect the ridiculous positions of the right.

Very fortunate indeed .. You want a war - vote for a Republican...

They are for War and the mighty rich.. they are 'power hungry'.. they want absolute power with corporations reining over the people.. and the hypocrisy of it all the extremist on the right want certain aspects of religion taught in the schools.. We are fighting extremist why would we want extremist here in this country? One could draw a parallel to the different sects that we are fighting to the U.S. and the different 'sects' that are here and many of them in power.

Guns in the schools some are suggesting along with guns in church and in the bar rooms... Tell me what is the difference other than certain laws that prohibit it.. which they would like to void?

McCain and Leiberman in a room together. Okay we have the testicles, now all we need is for Scott Walker to join the discussion and we'd have a complete set of flaccid male genetalia. ;)

I think a no-fly zone is a great idea, but not for the U.S. to provide it. In fact the U.S. jumping into acting as the world police force once again would be the exact wrong thing to do. Now is the time for Russia, China, Japan, Australia, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Brazil, etc. to take the lead. The U.S. will do just fine and/or better by letting someone else pay the price for the world peace we should all enjoy and the benefits it brings.

SmokingJoe - Although, I think any military action in Libya at this point is not the correct action, I agree with you if that happens, those who benefit more from their oil should put up. The US buys a very small percentage of oil from Libya - no sense in the US leading this charge.

No war period, let not allow anymore American die for some other country fight. We do not need their oil if our government would stop allowing the oil we product to go oversea, keep it here and we can use it. Why are we buying oil from other country and than turning around producing oil in our country and shipping it oversea, this make no sense at all.

If McCain want a war please make sure he is on the front line before any of the American children go's.

I salute him on one issue.. in being a p.o.w. he has taken a psychological blow to his mind.. and needs to get the hell out of politics like 8-10 years ago.

It is okay to go into a deficit as long as it is the wingnut's plan... but to help the citizens and place regulations on corporations to protect us... protect the children from harm, the land, the ocean, lakes that we fish in ..swim in... streams.. etc.. then they are against that...that's a deficit... for them.

Who cares what these old fools think? John McCain is a known war hawk and Lieberman won't be anything before long as he is retiring. They both need to go back home, get in their rocking chairs and shut their pie-holes. Just what we need to do, get involved in another "hot spot" and commit our troops. If that happens, maybe a soldier can pull a tour in Libya, Iraq and then Afghanistan prior to coming back home. What we need to do, is get the hell out of Iraq and Afghanistan totally, and bring our soldiers home, shore up our borders and quit throwing billions of taxpayers dollars down the drain. We are not helping the people of those countries in anyway not this country. Most terrorists are right here in America and homegrown.

Screw the hawks, and screw 'em all. Not only can we not afford any more military expenditures or conflicts whatsoever, I do not believe you can send someone off to die and call yourself a good person afterwards. It is morally unconscionable, unless it is in the most dire circumstances. I detested the fact that Bush sent people to Iraq, and I detest the fact that Obama has not called a complete halt to all of our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. If aggression is what you put out, it is aggression that you will reap, and we're one of the biggest aggressors around, and the kicker is, it's done supposedly in the name of righteousness. Yeah, right. There is no such thing as righteous war/death.

We have economic options in the middle east and north Africa: Don't Buy Their Oil!!! We all need to pull together as a nation and call for responsible and safe energy exploration within our borders. We need to stop "knee-jerking" and crank up oil production here with a tax per gallon for new energy research to discourage excessive consumption which serves only to drive the costs higher. We need to place a time-limit on the oil/mineral/energy exploration leases that are issued. If the energy companies want to play market games by not utilizing the leases they currently hold while crying for more, then those leases need to be made available to companies that will use them. Like it or not, things are not as they have always been folks! Most did not listen to the warning signs in 1973, how many more chances will we get? If we are going to gamble with our economy and the future generation's futures as has been the case for 40 years now, we might as well start using what we have here while we explore more sustainable technologies. If the energy companies do not want to get on board with these strategies then I say it is time to nationalize the nation's mineral reserves and let the public direct policy and share in the profits and expenses of energy exploration, development, and production. The way it stands now, those who can afford it (read: own and invest in energy shares and futures)will continue to manipulate the markets and economy as well as wasting a huge amount of our resources we need here by waging war to control energy abroad. I submit to you that this is a national security issue and we had better all give it some thought and action and not just choose up sides against one another, yet again.

There is merit to what you say but I don't really see how it applies to my comment. Not all national security problems require military action. The situation in Libya certainly doesn't.

redphish, I was inspired by your succinct analysis, and was merely suggesting an alternative to a military option. There seem to be those that feel we should be the invisible hand in the middle east. I contend that such policies have been costly and de-stabilizing at times. Better, I think, that we should seriously look at our supply and demand; Consumption vs Source Density, should you prefer a pragmatic, logical, apolitcal and non-economic term.

When one is to diplomatically involve themselves in other countries without first knowing our strengths and weaknesses, then one is a fool for involving ourselves in them in the first place.

We do not or should not partake in delivering the words from our country to another, unless we first have the might to stand behind us if things go awry.

Check this out... it has to deal with Oil.. 15 countries that we import from

I do not see Libya on the list

Does anyone think that the U.S. citizens welcome other countries getting involved here?

Although this has nothing to do with the topic.. I will respond to it..

Ask your brothers on the Republican side of the aisle .. Why did they Filibuster all the job bills ? Why are they against creating jobs in the bill that has to do with Energy Reform?

What you mention is OLD stuff.. considering that the Boner is in the House trying to subtract Regulations that employ people to do the job.. Why are the companies against Regulations that protect the Citizens of this Country from A to Z?

Again, who would enforce the no-fly zone? The US? France? Israel? Germany? UK? If it is to be a coalition force under the UN banner, then who shall be part of this coalition? What are the ramifications going to be, and how will it be interpreted by Libya's neighbors/allies? Maybe our administration is already at work trying to find a common ally who can lean on Ghaddafi or at least absorb the political fallout over possible military intervention. This could easily turn into another Bay of Pigs for the USA if we intervene in any way. There is already talk of arming and supporting rebel forces in East Libya. Better think.

Any no-fly zone effort would have to be started through a UN resolution. By the time anything like that could be negotiated, this situation would likely be over.

It's not clear whose side they're on. I assume they'd want the USA to install and support another dictator, another fascist. These men are not pro-democracy or pro-people. Where's Lindsay Graham in this?

Too, whenever I see these two, or three, meddling around in the Middle East I suspect an Israeli connection, at least one to Israel's rabid right-wing.
