“The woman said to turn their heads while she urinated. While their backs were turned the woman struck the first complainant in the head with a fish,” Gale said. “The female then approached them and struck the other man across the face with a fish.”

Anyone who's ever seen a picture of Tip Up Town knows that.

Small villages pop up overnight on many stretches of ice up here with ATV's, snowmobiles and cars and trucks parked out there.

Yup and every year some try and stretch the season just a LITTLE too long....or start too early! SPLASH!

We also used to race cars on the ice which was a blast..I grew up on Lake St.Clair a wee bit further south than Houghton Lake.

I'm still on St Clair (for now) and I'm amazed by what people will drive onto the ice. One guy had a bus out there!

Every years someone, either here or Erie stays out too long and the ice breaks off. Common sense seems to be hard to find sometimes.

We also used to race cars on the ice which was a blast.

I remember those very well Cynic. My uncle used to race motorcycles on Saginaw Bay back in the 50's and early 60's.

When officers interviewed the woman, she claimed that she was upset “because the other men put their shanty too close to her shanty,” Gale said.

Having grown up in Michigan and having enjoyed ice fishing my entire youth, I will tell you that folks take their ice fishing quite seriously there.

Nice looking yellow stripe perch in the pic by the way.

To be honest with you... There isn't any way unless it is the last food source on this planet that I would eat any fish that comes out of the so-called 'fresh' water.. In New England many of us catch and throw back because of the contaminated water ways.

Par

Believe it or not, the scientists who warned the folks of Michigan about the water contamination and helped work out the limits on how much fresh fish a person should eat a week(I grew up with those rules), have come out and said that the Great Lakes are "healing" themselves.

They are not sure what is happening to the pollution, but the levels have been dropping.

I think that they recently took the limit off of salmon caught in the Great Lakes. I remember that they provided guidelines because of mercury poisoning chances on those fish.

Yeah.. I heard the same thing.. that it is recovering some.. but still you have a lot of places around the Great Lakes and other fresh water lakes & streams that are still polluted and companies still polluting.. anyway... Mother Nature has a way of cleaning itself up if allowed to.

kaz yes we do don't we? Par, freshwater perch caught in winter under the ice is as sweet and tasty as you will find any where, and the waters being polluted, depends on where in the Great Lakes you are fishing.

We may be surrounded by the Great Lakes but we also have over 11,000 inland lakes, 38,000 miles of rivers and streams, 12,500 miles of classified trout streams, with 868 miles of them being classified as Blue Ribbon.

That's a lot of water and a lot of it is good water.

And all of those lakes are beautiful along with most of the land in between.

If you're looking a little north, there are some great prices right now. Hell, even south has good deals, but I hate the cities and as soon as my wife retires, we're moving north fulltime.

Definitely Cynic, I know the area where ombra has his retirement place. It's about five miles from my deer camp and is a fantastic area. Really beautiful, especially in the Spring.

Hey, you don't mess with ice fishing women around here. The fish are actually darned good and all that pollution from Chicago ended up in the Atlantic.

I'm wondering; would this be a case of ADP (Assault With a Deadly Perch)?

Or a Salmon. It should be an extreme crime to waste a perfectly good Salmon by hitting somebody with it. Besides, what use would it be; the cops impound the fish as evidence and they have a fish fry at the police station the next night.
