Wow!
I rarely use insect repellent....and spend the summer months de-ticking me and my husband. LOL!
If I do use an insect repellent I only use it on my boots and the leg bottoms of my jeans....which is still not good since I am washing it down the drain through my clothing....and contaminating the water I wade in with my boots.....so no more insect repellent for me unless I absolutely have to.
I think that Avon sells a lotion or an oil that is supposed to "naturally" repel mosquitoes, but I cannot remember which one. Also, I have tied Bounce dryer sheets to my horses' bridles to repel gnats and flies. It works somewhat.....and I don't like to use poisons on my horses via creams and fly sprays.

So... literally you are 'ticked off' when all is accomplished ?
I am going to be lost once I give up smoking... which is a great repellent for mosquitoes and the friends who back up away from you , they do not like it either... lol
A great repellent.. is not being outside at the time they are around.. ;) Mind having horses in your livingroom?

Animals have survived or not survived mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers since both have been around without man's intervention.
Most of the chemicals that we use in repellents are more harmful to the animals (and humans) than what they are supposed to repel.....and also to our environment / water supply according to this article.
Good luck on the giving up smoking....

We are damned if we do.. and damned if we don't.. weighing one against the other ...if we take care of the livestock we harm something else.. and if we do not take care of the livestock then we harm them...
Thanks.. I am now down to 10-12 cigs a day..
What irks me now about cigs.. is that I am in my 60's and CVS where I buy them and I've been going in this one place for years.. asked me today to show my I.D. for my age.. a new law in my state.. argh...
