Sex costs amazing amounts of time and energy. Just take birds of paradise touting their tails, stags jousting with their antlers or singles spending their weekends in loud and sweaty bars. Is sex really worth all the effort that we, sexual species, collectively put into it?

Animals have seasonal sex. If they were to have sex as often as humans do even when not in the mood, wouldn't their short lifespan be even shorter. When dogs are bored, they will lie down and fall asleep or they create some excitement by finding someone to bark at or another dog to chase. But we, humans, often choose sex (either with self or another person) to cure boredom. People with a busy mind do not think or abuse sex unnecessarily; But when the urge arises it's worth the effort. Thus, like says Part4thecourse, " quality is better than quantity for some"

There is one thing that animals have that some humans do not have.. better genes..and most of the time smarter.. animals should go forth and multiply.. many humans should not.

The lazy, what's in it for me, gene.. is a bad gene.. Animals do not have that gene.. they actually go out there every day.. and fend for themselves.. looking for food and shelter, and try to stay alive.. People expect things to come their way without trying .. they expect handouts.. Welfare, food stamps, the What's in it for me gene....

Par4 --- I understand what you mean. I was also referring to predispositions - disease, both physical and mental; immorality (crime) and such. People tend not to think about the potential for passing on genetic defects and poor character traits...or maybe they don't care, and we all pay for it.

Why cant we have quantity and quality at the same time.
I may be and elder but the quality is there every time. no matter if its once a month once a week or three times a week. Its up to us to determine the quality of sex, I guess we have been doing something right for 41 yrs of marriage and we both still enjoy quality and quantity.

I am close at 38 years..
The quantity I was referring to.. has to do with 'different' people.. not the same person..
It is better to find one that makes you happy then 20 that you engage in... It might be exciting pleasant to have a different person every day/week/month.. and possibly satisfying sexually.. however, to have one person that one can devote their life, sexual interaction, thoughts, desires, and experiences with.. is a much better avenue to take.. which some animals also do..

your right, but it may be more dangerous in all aspects chasing after different partners much less the diseases you may encounter, with death the worst senerio.
and this is sustained by the animal world, where the strongest gets the mostest. and along with the diseases that come along with it, as the monkeys and apes have shown to be true.
I like my situation one for life, maybe my second life I can encounter more willing partners.

You are right.. It is a dangerous aspect of dating today.. is all these diseases.. back in our day.. it was more stds than it was aids..and many never thought of std either.... however.. back then people were not as aware of it like they are today... there isn't any reason for someone today to get a disease with the knowledge out there.. but yet they do..
When my kids were young we went to a zoo.. we bypassed the monkeys .. lol they are known to throw things..

I also taught mine young, so she knew well before dating what is and is not accepted and right.
now she's married with 2 kids .
the knowledge is is saturating the information networks so much that if anyone catches anything, I do not have sympathy for them, knowledge is power and many out there are brain dead.

Today.. many parents are too busy doing things than they are paying attention to their kids.. We grew up in the home where there was an adult figure to greet us when we got home.. We didn't care about living the rich life.. just getting by day by day.. and creating an atmosphere for the family that would give a foundation so that each kid could benefit and go to school to become better than the last generation.. Our folks sacrificed their needs to give us the support we needed to better ourselves.. today parents think living in a 2,300+sq foot home, on a 1/2-1 acre lots.. that the best makes the difference.. and they just do not get it.. it isn't what you have that matters.. It is what vocal support you give your children.. it isn't the things.. and we have both parents working and no one home for the kids.. to teach them responsibility, reasoning skills, right from wrong..
knowledge is power and many out there are brain dead.
...as seen through the last electoral process and campaigns...
Was there not a time .. and I could be imagining this.. that people use to take Responsibility in the way they reported news? It seems there are broadcasting companies.. that are more into Creating the news.. than Reporting the news..
Chet Huntley and David Brinkley.. and many other news Reporters.. are very rare today..
