They removed a total of $530,170 of unreported currency from the tire.

The seizure is the largest made by CBP officers in El Paso since an $802,720 outbound seizure made at the Bridge of the Americas on Sept. 11, 2009. Individuals are permitted to carry any amount of currency or monetary instruments into or out of the U.S. If the quantity is $10,000 or higher, they must formally report the currency to CBP.

...arrested the driver of the vehicle on currency smuggling charges. He is identified as 40-year-old Francisco Castaneda Castillo of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. He is currently detained at the El Paso County Detention Facility.

Hey, Par.

It is probably much "safer" for Castillo to remain in jail in the US than it is for him to ever return to Mexico....I am almost certain that there are some very angry drug dealers in Mexico.

I applaud the efforts of the BP to detect and confiscate the cash that is making its way back to the drug cartels in Mexico, but I wonder what kind of retaliation that the US can expect if this trend continues?

MoCowgirl - Hey!

But for the fact there isn't any death penalty for drug cartel members and pushers/dealers who destroy people's lives.. I guess this will have to do..

As for retaliation .. I am like you.. who knows? ;) They will be getting real desperate if they are not already due to the amount of people we will have along the border soon... opening up new checkpoints won't help their cause either.. we will be catching more of them.. making a bigger dent..

The Feds need to add this to the list of death penalty convictions too...If it is a small amount- like on a personal scale.. which seems 99.999 to .001 that it wouldn't be coming from Mexico or elsewhere..these people are drug pushers/mules...cartel members to paint with a broad brush...should have in their minds each time they think about crossing the death penalty if they are caught.. We have to use psychology..

Par,

I agree this should be a death penalty offense.

The people who use/abuse illegal drugs normally start as teenagers....which is why I have always advocated stringing drug dealers to the nearest tree and letting them hang there until they rot.

Children should never, ever come into contact with drug dealers.....nor should they have to be raised by drug addicts.

MoCowgirl - I totally agree !!!

IF an alcoholic parent isn't fit for children.. then certainly drug addicts are not fit either for children.
