Mississippi had the highest percentage of obese residents at 34.4 percent, while Colorado had the lowest with 18.6 percent.
About 72.5 million U.S. adults are obese, according to CDC data. No state has met the CDC's goal of reducing obesity prevalence to 15 percent by 2010.
Arizona's obesity rate has been on an upward trajectory, mirroring the national trend. In 1995, 13.3 percent of Arizona's population was obese.
