The more obese a woman is when she becomes pregnant, the greater the likelihood that her newborn baby will have a congenital heart defect, a new study suggests. The finding raises concerns because 1 in 5 women are obese at the start of pregnancy in the United States.

Par, May I clip this to my Nurses on the Vine and Healthcare Workers on the Vine groups? Also, may I share this with a friend (she is not on the Vine)?

You're Welcome ;)

I think this article is describing / bringing notice to what should be 'common sense'... If one looks at many of the babies that have been born to obese women, they are over weight babies ..continuing the cycle of symptoms that the baby will have also.

Over weight babies.. the ones 9 lbs plus .. if born to obese women.. and because of the habits of the mother would instinctively succumb to the same prospects of the mother unless there is a dietary change and eating habits, and the support to help curtail what will be the over weight child in a school room setting.. and kids in yesterday year, today, and in the future a really 'honest' with their feelings.. pushing the child more into feeling bad about themselves..and will tend to rely on food as a "depressionary" type of outlet.

History and even today more so.. has proved that over weight women do give birth to over weight children, and in the household the people/children tend to be over weight too.. continuing the cycle and poor eating habits...

I have a friend who's little girl passed away at five days old, from an undetected CHD. She has been doing alot of research and has started a not for profit to try and raise awareness and get legislation passed for mandatory testing. I actually posted an article about her daughter. She found a similar article a few months ago but I went ahead and passed it on :)

This is why it is so critical for women to take note.. and not only the women the over weight/obese men too who are married to over weight/obese women, that cycle where both parents can/will have over weight kids..

Exercise and dieting is so important..more so watching what we eat.. In the US I heard, that we have the largest dinner plates out of most/if not all civilized countries (Questionable on the civilized).. If people would just cut down how much they eat..and some of the things they do eat.. and become more watchful on how many times one eats..along with the exercise.. then we would become more of a 'fit' country... Unfortunately JFK's tactics on Physical Ed and exercise has wain.

Another reason why Michele Obama has been pushing this aspect .. the obese are susceptible to many problems, and also because of their obesity have many medical problems, and will die at a younger age. Also - just in Emergency Services.. that I am sure you are well aware of for EMTs and ERs - they pose a different set of problems trying to defibrillate if they have a heart attack
