Kiwi doctors want adults to be banned from smoking in cars containing children.

The ban is already in place in several Australian states. Two years ago Tasmania introduced an on-the-spot fine of $110.

A ban in New Zealand would mean anyone under the age of 18 - the current legal age for smoking - would be classed as a child.

My parents were both chain smokers when I was a child. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life but I have decreased lung function that is probably due to their smoking around me when I was growing up.

This is why I have never smoked in the home.. The wettest days, the coldest days..even the snowiest days.. I'd be outside..or find some protection outside to smoke...and I have smoked 50 years.. I will probably die from them.. my father did, a few uncles of mine have, even an aunt or two..

What is idiocy - people who complain about smokers, yet smoke marijuana.. or those who complain about smokers yet burn wood and stink up the neighborhood filling it with the stench and smoke so others can inhale it.. without thinking -why do firefighters where mask and have tanks...Burning and smoke.. any smoke can damage the lungs and can produce many problems.. sure -firefighters must go into burning buildings.. between the extreme heat and smoke - but smoke accumulative affects is where the problem for us regular folk..
