Friends of the Earth says planning regime is fundamentally flawed and fails to assess carbon emissions

Friends of the Earth has threatened to launch a legal challenge against the government over its "fundamentally flawed" plans to approve hundreds of new nuclear reactors, power plants, wind farms, electricity pylons and pipelines.

The group has written to energy secretary Ed Miliband warning him that government planning statements issued in November breach environmental regulations and had not followed proper consultation. Friends of the Earth said it was also supported by conservation groups, the WWF and RSPB.

Ugh. I'm all for truly "renewable" energy(big fan of solar), but people need to be realistic. We aren't going back to the stone age, and these people should be happy we're wanting to put in nuclear instead of coal. Nuclear is a big step in the right direction, and as a way to hold us over until solar/wind/hydro has taken over there's none better. Not to mention nuclear plants actually put less radiation into the air than coal plants, if one is afraid of the radiation. They have basically no downside.

What state do you live in? Would you want that stuff stored near you? Ya know.. storing the waste is not 100%.. and would you like this massive concrete sealed building in your neighborhood? If any of the containers leak.. Oh! and they will eventually.. would you want it to get into your aquifers?

Nuclear power for or against.. there is no 100% with this crapola.. You still have 'man' handling things.. I do not trust "man" to do anything 100% of the times correct and safely.. with all the examples of morons out there today.. I would not count on them to even tie their own shoes.. Plus just another avenue in this terror filled world of ours.. yes.. give them more stuff that they can carry out their acts towards..
