Simon Sharp, 42, noticed the large crustacean had become caught in his nets while fishing for Dover sole off the coast of Dartmouth in Devon.

After hauling the lobster on board with the help of his wife, Mr Sharp found that it stretched more than three feet from the tip of its claw to the end of its tail

Me, too... but I'm glad they tossed the poor old thing back... 100 years old? Big guy deserves to go out with a bang (and his lady-lobster).

It's good they let the lobster go. An animal that size and that age should be allowed to die in peace in its natural enviornment.

Something that large ground up would be cat food .. or a Lobster pate'.. I'm sure it wouldn't go to waste in other recipes...

If you want lobsters for food use the smaller ones. The older ones have made their way through life, their time should come in the wild. Also, why would you want to eat something so old and wrinkly and crusty?

Gosh! I am so happy they let him go!

Just think. He has survived for about 100 years.

Really makes you wonder what else is down there.

Lobster is the cockroach of the sea... Crabs are something you want to stay away from.

yeah Par. both crabs and lobsters are scavengers.

Really makes you think about it though.

People in the US for example will eat scavengers like this from the sea but hardly anyone would probably think of eating a land scavenger like a hyena or one of those scavenger birds like the condor.

I guess what people don't see what a scavenger eats is easier to accept them as food.

I'm not sure if it's accurate, but I read once that the basic lobster's next closest kin on their dna family tree really is your basic cockroach. But I don't care, flounder are bottom feeders as well, and I love flounder! With a little butter/dill sauce, oh, my!

I do know that the crab is the spider of the sea... and that I wasted a perfectly good post on some that did not read the last one really well enough to get the message.. otherwise there would of been a different reaction.. oh well.. I'll save it for another day.

            Cockroach and lobster. DNA related?

            Didn't know that.

Look at it this way, Bro... they said it would have been tough as old boots... maybe you should drool over a younger, more tender lobster...

Riiiight, there I was calculating the lobster to butter ratio when I realized it would be like eating lobster jerky. Hmmm, not so much.

exactly - the 2-3 pound lobsters are about as high as I would go for eating... that size it would be stringy tough meat..

              Now that's nice!

We've got a nice seafood shop here, they fly in goodies overnight from all over the globe. A tad pricey for some, but that's about almost anywhere.

Just a couple of nice eight or ten oz baby's would do us just fine!

So sad he wouldn't be tasty, but if the older the lobster the randier the lobster, I'll settle for eating one of his offspring. Now where did I put that garlic butter.....
