He must be the butt of a lot of jokes...and looks back in hindsight at the accident that he could of lost his life instead.

I wish someone could explain to me exactly why people think motorcycles are cool? Locally, this weekend, a motorcyclist was killed. Motorcycles cannot compete with cars in a crash, and even if the biker is thrown and no cars are involved, there are few protections.
Car passengers have to wear seatbelts and most have air bags, but bikers have just a freakin' helmet... It makes no sense, it is irrational, but I guess it's par for the course.
I'm glad the fellow in this article was helped, but I think the article should have put emphasis on the folly of riding motorcycles in the first place...
...on the other hand, it's his life; he can be as stupid as he wants. The only thing that really irks me is that the law is so lopsided when it comes to personal protective devices. If I forget to buckle up, I can get a ticket, yet a biker can roar into traffic, weave in and out, tailgate, cut off other vehicles, and he has only to wear a helmet... and when he is injured or killed, the whole world goes, "Awwww, poor guy..."
I just go, "Awww, stupid idiot!"
Talk about preventable accidents...

Yes it is crazy... plus some think that it is a free ticket to drive like a banshee.

For real... it's also a free ticket to kill and be killed.
I don't have a problem with motorcycles for off-road use... or even in areas where traffic is light - rural roads, for example - but just as most limited access highways prohibit bicycles and pedestrians, they really should also prohibit motorcycles, and for the same reasons.
But, I guess that would be too logical, so will never happen.

The motorcyclist fly down my road and its a 30mph zone.. after market parts too... one day this kid thought he was so smart, he pulled a wheely.. he must of been going 45mph or so.. and the bike went out from under him and he slid a good 100-150 feet.. I haven't laughed that loud since... his bike hit a phone pole damaging the the bike, and his two friends with him looked like they couldn't believe what happened...
I had a neighbor with a Harley with after market parts.. and he use to rev it up at around 11pm at night.. one night he was revving it up.. and a loud bang happened.. I do not know what happened, but it woke up almost the entire area.. and even someone called the police.. I laughed the next day when a tow came to take his bike away...

I wonder what they'd have said if he'd died?
Years ago, around 1983, a friend of mine lost her brother to a motorcycle wreck. He was wearing a helmet, but misjudged a curve, flew off the road, smacked a tree...
There is no such thing as a safe motorcycle. Just a lot of testosterone in hyper-show-off mode...
What saddens me is that a lot of nice guys (and some gals) love their bikes... I guess it's just their blind spot; they can't see, or are in denial about, the danger. And they don't seem to care that those who love them will have to suffer the loss forever.

You are talking about the "Me" generation.. How "I" feel... What "I" want.
