An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday night for trying to chop down a 30-foot tree on county parkland in Hacienda Heights, reportedly because he needed wood to build a bonfire.

Jacob Brill remains jailed this morning at the L.A. County sheriff's Industry station, and is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, said Lt. Arthur Scott. Brill was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism.

WOW $50,000 bail for a tree. Them Californians really do love their trees.

Actually.. trees do cost a lot of money depending on size to replace.. especially if you want it to be about the same size as the others.. a mature tree could cost that much..

I meant the size of his bail not the cost of the tree. I have seen way lower bail for more serious crimes than felony vandalism.

I guess bonfires are a big social thing at SoCal beaches. I guess he was thinking that bringing all that wood might get an invite to use his wood, so to speak. He may wind up with nothing but splinters, when all is said and done. lol
