Scientists are working with farmers and fuel companies to produce a greener form of biofuel.

The project is using sugar-rich varieties of perennial ryegrass as a raw material for producing bio-ethanol.

It is being developed at Aberystwyth University's Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences.

The U.S. is lagging behind other countries which are doing more towards alternatives other than oil. Wind and Bio, solar and geo... Where does the United States stand in the race for alternative energy sources?

The people looking for jobs should be seeking these jobs out.. this is where the jobs are. Someone with the know-how to get things done could start their own Vertical Axis Wind Turbine manufacturing, so homeowners can purchase, and have installed to their home.. the time is now.. not later.

Yes, rather than being an innovator, the US is being bought off to not produce good solid alternative energies and fuels. And, given that our country holds the myriad of climates and terrain types, you would think that we'd be easily climbing on top of the green energy tech. I'm sadly disappointed in our almost complete addiction to fossil fuels...

We can save ourselves.. the technology is here today that individuals could create/make their own business in the alternative energy field...

We as homeowners or property owners can delve into it by installing vertical axis wind turbines.. they are not as large as the 200-300 foot turbines you see on television/commercials..or in many areas of the U.S. Ed Begley has one for his home, along with solar arrays. Larry Hagman has a solar array that takes care of his large estate, plus he sells much of it back to the energy company there for 5 homes that get from him...and that is without a wind turbine.

We have energy tax credits.. and if one checks with their energy company.. some have test areas that they will help set up the system for you.

There was an article I read a while ago about researchers trying to use plains switchgrass to produce ethanol (when the corn glut got bad). It grows anywhere, and has a high biomass content. Just another solution to the gasoline problems...

The jobs are undoubtedly in the alternative fuel area....and will be for a long time.. the mindset of the people has to change.. or otherwise they will be literally left out in the cold.

Alternative fuel and energy is a growing field that many can get their hands into...not only for the people that need jobs but the property and homeowners alike. It has proven in many ways to be a source for cheap energy... just the starting cost is what holds many people back from buying and installing them. There are tax credits for them, and in the long run it would save a homeowner money to have wind & solar.

Many people think of wind as these massive towers with the large blades spanning out 100-150 feet.. yet there are many different kinds of turbines including Vertical Axis .. which take up less space and without the large blades and swishing/swooshing sounds that they make... more relevant for neighborhoods and homeowners..
