Boston (WBZ) -- With the holidays coming up, most of us want to look and feel our best when we put on that little black dress or Thanksgiving sweater.

But if you don't have time for a diet, WBZ's Dr. Mallika Marshall has some tips on how you can change in your diet to look and feel slimmer in just one week.

WHY AM I BLOATED?

Do you ever get the feeling that as you get older, your stomach seems to get bigger?

It may be bloat. It turns out as we get older, it takes longer for food to leave our stomachs, plus air can get trapped there too and that makes clothes tight around the waist. But there are simple ways to solve the problem quickly by adding -- or subtracting -- things from your diet.

Gee, every time I go on a diet, after about 2 weeks, when my interest is flagging, I buy a pair of pants one size too large, so I can run around and hitch them up every now and then. I may not BE thinner, but I FEEL thinner. :-)

Plus, I am rewarded for all my goodness.

I've learned - that if you eat very slowly.. use smaller plates.. load the veggies first and without putting one on or real close to the other on the plate I leave a space..and whatever is left I put like my chicken/turkey/ham.. and I do not go for seconds.. I eat very slowly.. with a 10 second break in between..and then get up.. walk somewhat briskly outside and around my home about 5 times.. then I wait an hour.. then I may have desert.. on a smaller dish...

Some say if you eat slowly and put a time in between.. you will feel full sooner...

There is an old saying about eating... We do not live to eat, we eat to live.

No one tells me to eat more slowly. I spent a great deal of time growing up with my Grandparents and the meals rarely lasted less than one hour-- we were too busy laughing and having fun!

It take me more than 1/2 hour to eat a scoop of ice cream-- it is melted before I get 1/2 way down. I never get to finish a meal-- everyone else is always done.

But you're right-- I use small plates, and load up on veggies. It works for me!

I'll eat veggies over anything else.. well.. except for Maine Lobster... a lot of protein and not much fat... except you need a fat wallet to afford it.

First of all, it's common knowledge that if you're the cook at Thanksgiving, you won't gain weight; if you taste or sample food as you cook, no calories. You can eat all the hors d'oeuvres you'd like without gaining an ounce, if you eat them while standing. There's no weight gain if you eat food given or received as a gift, such as that apple pie, chocolate mousse, etc. Food eaten to be polite (Oh, thanks Aunt Essie for that rhubarb pie!) will actually result in a weight loss. This may have a lot to do with why I'm the cook! This seems to work in my house but may not work in other homes, so be very careful. Diet, exercise, fiber have their place - but it's not at Thanksgiving. Best wishes to all for a hearty Happy Thanksgiving!

All is BS!

As we get older (and this includes everyone who shops at Walmart), we get lacier.

I do most of the cooking in our home.

BTW. I am a male.

I can feed three people with one chicken breast and many low cost ingredients.

People are fat because they go to fast food outlets (notice that I didn't call them restaurants), or buy pre-manufactured foods.

I buy locally and I use the KISS method. Meals can be made at half the cost and with half the calories.
