CHICAGO - He's an 84-year-old diabetic with one lung that doesn't work.

She's his 84-year-old wife, a survivor of a nearly fatal aortic aneurysm.

About a dozen years ago, they stared old age in the face and made a decision. Instead of letting themselves go, they would get themselves going.

Thanks for the cheering article!

You are right, so many of our neighbors, who never give up, are inspirational.

Take care, Par4!

Hopefully by the time I get old, somebody will have discovered the fountain of youth. I hate exercising!

When you're young at heart, you never grow old. At least that's the way I look at it

Good article Par4TheCourse, I know a lot of people that could possibly be inspired by this couple, and several who definitely need to be.

Glad I don't have to worry about my toe, I just have Mellon's I have to worry about falling, an there's really not to much exercise you can do to help them, lol, I could stand to walk a bit more.

As it goes the older we get the slower our metabolism becomes.. even if it takes a walk around the house a couple of times could be called exercise... taking a couple of cans of soup.. one in each hand.. as you sit and watch television .. with your arm straight out and a can.. raise and lower your arm.. that is exercise.... even if it is 1 rubber ball .. you could squeeze it in your hand up to the count of 10.. that is exercise.. all of this helps.. and lessens the affects to arthritis... without the fancy equipment. Raising and lowering a leg while you sit.. exercise... etc..

I have a similar saying, "If you use it, you bruise it."

The best exercise is Physical Therapy.. Oh My Back!!.. and IF you have insurance... I just tell my doctor... and she perscribes Physical Therapy for me.. and the purty women at this one place I go to have me for 10-12 times before the insurance company cuts me off.. it gets me through part of the winter months.. as they have me on exercise machines.. Back rubs.. plus sometimes a stimulation device that they place electrodes on my back...and I sleep for about 1/2 hour..

Also they have their fitness training exercises and work out on equipment too... like joining a club but all I had to pay was $25 each time I go.. and I get the 'Hands On'..

Hey, Good Morning Par4!

Sounds like quite a workout. I get plenty exercise from my two jobs, but I also do push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups pretty regularly. It's easier for me to stay in shape, than to have to get back in it. And hey, what can I say, it looks good on me too =)
