On 5-0 vote, agency moves ahead in push to regulate Internet

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) unanimously voted to open a proceeding that could lead to Internet regulations, although the two Republican commissioners dissented on whether rules are warranted.

The approval of the notice to consider net neutrality rules comes after weeks of intense lobbying by the telecom industry and a flurry of letters from members of Congress. Network operators, including AT&T, Verizon and Comcast, say they need the flexibility to manage traffic, while application providers such as Google, Amazon, Skype and Facebook argue service providers should treat all traffic equally.

Yeah they are regulating the Internet - to keep it open!

Net neutrality means that every site has equal access to the net; every user has equal access to all sites; no one can block or slow access to any site.

This is the way it is (mostly) now

And all the FCC is doing is the same as the ruling they did years ago that all local telephone companies had to provide equal access to all long distance carriers, not give preference to any one long distance company (especially one they owned)

So they are regulating the internet by keeping it neutral; what a concept!

They are laying the groundwork for being able to tax Internet users. Nothing more.

Do you have the slightest idea what you are talking about?

Taxing internet users would come from elsewhere - do you see the FCC taxing long distance users?

That is an insane notion with absolutely no basis in reality; go spread your fear and ignorance elsewhere
